Once more the 7th Stadtwerke Lübeck Marathon has been the big running event over 42.2 km. Having started at the Holstentor and turned on the Travemünde boardwalk, more than 400 runners have finished this year’s marathon. A new course record has been established by Britta Giesen from Hamburg (03:05:31). Previously Markus Mey from the Peters Sportteam has won the men marathon (02:50:04). Exactly ...

...10:00am for the 7th time in a row Gabriele Schopenhauer, the mayor of Lübeck, has send the starting field onto the track. Without any exception all starters were weekend warriors. Again, the motto was ‘from the Holstentor to Baltic Sea and back’. Although the framework conditions were perfect, none of the famous runners from the region have been started. Smaller tracks or the relay race have been preferred. Too bad. The ‘ancient’ record by Jon-Paul Hendriksen (NZL) with 02:31:27 at least is dated back to the year 2009. This year’s men marathon winner Markus Mey has made a perfect race seen individually (02:50:04). He finished ahead of Jan Kaschura (Post Holzminden, 02:53:26) and Dirk Heise (Team Orange Eberswalde, 02:56:17). After his victory he praised the atmosphere, the many supporters and the great organization on and around the track. The women marathon winner has found similar expressions. Having finished she was overjoyed and could hardly believe that she has set a new course record. Brith Erichsen from Aalborg (Denmark, 03:11:31) has been 2nd ahead of Sandra Morchner (Mindcat Sylt, 03:18:28). Near the end all marathon finishers had to struggle with upcoming wind. This late summer day in the Hanseatic City of Lübeck will stick in everybody’s memory as a magnificent marathon experience.
