From the Holstentor to the Baltic Sea. The marathon runners will be starting at the historical 800-years-old inner-city. After circumnavigating the Holstentor the track leads directly to the Baltic Sea coast and then back to the city core, which will be the central venue for all runners. The marathon itself, and further the 4.000 athletes, several DJs andpresenter, a huge video wall and many booths and stands are part of this big spectacle.
The Stadtwerke Lübeck Marathon is known as one of the most popular marathon events in Germany. The unique atmosphere between Holstentor, Trave, Herrentunnel and Baltic Sea is supported by more than 600 voluntary helpers. Also, the 10 x 4.2 km relay race is considered a huge plus for the atmosphere. Hundreds of runners will be standing tightly packed in the transition zone at the “Sandstraße”. Here, the DJ and presenter David Preiss will ensure the optimal party sound and the providing of all necessary information for the athletes. In order to guarantee that the relay race will be regarded as a great experience we ask everyone for fair play. Especially the quick teams from Lübeck, Kiel or Eutin need to take into account the slower ones, which often are amateur runners. Thus, the organization team has its hands full with work. “It’s a huge area of responsibility and one of the most important part of the organization”, says Daniel Breidel (Lübecker Marathon e.V.), who is responsible for the track and the transition zone.
Furthermore, the “Kohlmarkt” will be the starting and finishing area for each and every runner. Several live cameras will film the athletes and visitors. Contemporaneous, these scenes will be shown at the 20qm big video wall located next to the main stage. You can find both at the market place in front of the town hall. “The Stadtwerke Lübeck Marathon has a huge power of attraction for runners from all over Germany. Every year we are able to gladly welcome guests from each part of Germany and furthermore several European countries”, says Klaus Ziele (Lübecker Marathon e.V., chief organizer).
